His Revelation

A young woman is searching for meaning in a chaotic world. She’s always felt there’s something bigger out there, a purpose or a presence, but it’s like trying to grasp a shadow. One evening, under a star-filled sky, she wonders, “Is it even possible to know God?”  The question lingers, heavy but hopeful. The Bible offers an answer in John 17:3 that feels like a warm light breaking through: “Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.” Her heart stirs. Knowing God isn’t just a distant dream—it’s the essence of life itself. But how does this happen? Who shows us the way?

As she digs deeper, she learns that God doesn’t leave us guessing. Psalm 19:1-2 paints a vivid picture: “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge.” Every sunrise, every constellation, is like a silent symphony shouting, “There’s a purposeful design here!” Creation points to a purposeful intelligent design, a Creator behind it all. She feels a spark of awe, realizing the world around her is a canvas of God’s presence.

But God’s revelation doesn’t stop there. He goes further, speaking directly to His people through prophets, His words echoing across generations. Hebrews 1:1 says, “In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways.” Through the Scriptures, inspired by His Spirit, God reveals His heart—His wisdom, His love, His justice. In 1 Corinthians 2:13, Paul explains, “This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual realities with Spirit-taught words.” The Scriptures are letters written for her, inviting her into a relationship with Him, transforming her understanding of who He is.

Yet, as breathtaking as creation and Scripture are, God’s most profound revelation, the ultimate unveiling—Jesus Christ, the Word made flesh. John 1:14 declares, “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.” He isn’t just a messenger; He is God Himself, the clearest, most relatable revelation of the Father’s heart. She pictures Jesus—His compassion healing the broken, His truth spoken with love, His sacrifice on the cross. Through Him, God is knowable, a person she can follow. Luke 10:22 confirms this: “No one knows who the Father is except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.” Jesus is the bridge, the most transformative way to know God. Through Him, she sees God’s character—His grace, mercy, and justice—in vivid color, and her heart is forever changed.

Her journey is just beginning, but she’s no longer alone. God’s revelation—through creation, Scripture, and above all, Jesus—draws her into a relationship with Him. It reshapes how she sees herself, her community, and the world. As she steps forward, she’s eager to discover more of what God reveals about Himself.

1. Knowing God and Love  Have you ever felt a deep longing to be truly known? That desire to be heard, understood, and loved is woven into every human heart. When Jesus says in John 17:3 that eternal life is to know God and Jesus Christ, He’s pointing to a profound truth: knowing God is at the heart of love itself. God’s revelation—through creation, His Word, and Jesus—is His way of saying, “I want you to know Me, because I already know and love you.” Just as we feel loved when someone listens and understands us, God reveals Himself to invite us into a relationship of mutual knowing. Think about it: God, the Creator of the universe, longs to be known by you, and He placed that same longing in your heart to know Him. 2. God as the Initiator What if God had stayed silent? Without His initiative, we’d be left in the dark, grasping for answers. But God chose to reveal Himself—first through creation, where every star and mountain declares His existence (Psalm 19:1-2), then through His Word, and ultimately through Jesus. Knowledge itself begins with God’s act of creation and His desire to be known. This sets the foundation for our faith: we don’t start by chasing God; we respond to His invitation. Consider how creation, like a sunset or a storm, has stirred your sense of God’s presence. How does knowing that God initiated this revelation—that He took the first step toward you—shape the way you approach your faith or share it with others?
